She/her. Bisexual. Artist. Spain. Now working as junior shading artist for a small animation company. I really love art, baking, videogames and nerdy things in general.
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
Hey, there. Rewatching Midnight Mass right now and it's got to be one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm cancelling Netflix soon for budget reasons, and I know there's been disputes and frustration over this, but if there was ever a DVD release, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Here's hoping.
I tried repeatedly over many years to get Netflix to do the right thing and release the original shows on physical media. For a long time they just said no, then they ignored me for a while, then they said no a few more times, then they said they would see what they could do…
At one point, they said they were actually going to do it - an executive told me they were going to package everything into a “Flanaverse” box set (man I hate that word, but I would have lived with it gladly if it meant physical media releases).
I was overjoyed. But months went by without any further updates. When I finally followed up, they sent a single-sentence email that basically said “oh yeah, never mind, we weren’t able to get that going.” I pushed for an explanation as to why but never got anything more specific than “physical media just isn’t a priority for the company”.
That outcome (and the dismissive, nonchalant delivery of the news) were entirely demoralizing.
We are seeing more and more movies and series being erased from existence as studios seek to save a little cash. This is only going to get worse.
The fact that Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, Gerald’s Game and Before I Wake (and the upcoming Fall of the House of Usher) are exclusively available ONLY on Netflix, and can disappear from the service at any time and be entirely erased from the world - is absolutely terrifying to me.
Physical media is critical.
Being available “exclusively” on a single platform is bad for the business, bad for cinema, and bad for all of us.
I used to be vehemently opposed to piracy.
I have completely changed my stance on that issue.
Yesterday’s “pirates” are, in some cases, the only hope for archival preservation of a growing amount of shows and movies.
I have purchased several pirated blu-ray copies of Midnight Mass, am very impressed with the quality and presentation, and I am profoundly grateful they exist.
Godspeed, noble archivists.
(Wanted to point out - Paramount co-produced both The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Netflix wouldn’t have put those out either, but Paramount retained the physical media rights, so one year after each was launched on Netflix, they were made available on Blu-ray and DVD. They include deleted scenes, extended scenes, and commentary tracks.

If people don’t admit that alcohol is a drug so help me God I will pour an entire bottle of wine on their hair.
Wine? Drugs. Beer? Drugs. That awful cocktail you made in your dorm room out of leftover coffee and orange juice and tequila? D-d-d-drugs.
This may sound obvious to you but society at large puts alcohol in this removed category away from other drugs. If you tell most wine moms that they have a drug problem they’d be appalled that you’d ever say such a thing. It’s just time for humanity to admit that we like doing drugs. Most people’s drug of choice just happens to be alcohol.
Also caffeine is a drug but like, it’s so baked into our culture because so many people rely on it to get through the workday, which should really say something about our relationship with work but that’s not a conversation the powers that be are eager to have
Caffeine is also present in chocolate.
alchohol, caffiene, and sometimes even tobacco get this really weird alternative category in people’s minds because they’re Legal, available, and generally considered safe enough “as long as you don’t overdo it”. most people do not actually know what overdoing it looks like; you kinda have the Whale problem(gacha game term) where there’s always someone doing worse than you so it’s fine.
people have also started treating weed this way more and more, which REALLY concerns me, because that is one of the drugs that can get other people around you high. we already have arguments about secondhand tobacco smoke, and I don’t know how to explain to people that it’s very concerning when you come to pick up your kid from after school and the smell is so strong on you that I can smell it before the doors open.
call it what it is and be consistently aware of the risks. you are not being a buzzkill or offensive by maintaining a cautious relationship with drugs, nor for acknowledging when your friends don’t do that.
Anonymous: My gf is an actual amab cis girl. They wrote male on her birth certificate by mistake
In an odd inversion, my cis grandfather was marked as female on his DEATH certificate.
afad
I’m male whenever I’m on Brazilian soil because when I applied for a visa, the lady didn’t believe I was a cis woman and put male on my documents even after I complained twice, so I’m also amab (Assigned Male At BrazilianBorder)
my bestie is a cis woman and is amad (assigned male at drivingliscense)
While this is funny this really should highlight to people how deep transphobia runs. It diesn’t matter if you’re cis or trans, strangers in the world will just DECIDE based on apparent visual indicators that simply arent accurate. Cis women are not excempt from harrassment and being accused of being “secretly a man”. All arguments about single-sex spaces crumble when perceptiona of what women SHOULD look like simply arent accurate at all.
And even for simple admin errors, it highlighrs further how much these systems do not care about you. They won’t change your gender on your papers regardless of if you are or aren’t trans. It’s a simple mis-click that could result in you being accused of something like fraud and no one is going to listen to you or take your complaints seriously to fix it before that happens.
Tranaphobia is not exclusive to trans people, its a far wider issue and its time transphobes (and TERFs especially) picked up on that reality and realised what theyre actually doing to themselves.
For when people say they’re sick of seeing gay stuff everywhere. Suck it up. 4 years. 4 years. And that’s just on the books, it’s legal. It doesn’t stop shitty attitudes, actions, or straight up violence.
So it only really lasted 6 years before they started making it illegal again. Cool cool cool
